![]() ![]() I then made 3 second mag loops of about 20 different varieties of them, with start marks at the beginning of modulation. I transfered my favorite individual gunshots to fullcoat mag from an Ampex 1/4" machine with a varispeed, maximizing the impact of each one and making liberal use of tape compression and distortion to taste. I got some incredible recordings (none of which I know what eventually happened to). I have no idea what they were, I'm no Charles Maynes. ![]() Well, they started to pull out all these hard core tripod mounted automatic assault weapons and also a bunch of antique very high calibre rifles, as well as some Dirty Harry type revolvers. ![]() At one of the more remote ranges I ran into some survivalist types dressed in camoflage, and after overcoming a great deal of suspicion as to my motives, convinced them to let me record their weapons. There was a scene with a helicopter gunship demolishing the bad guys with a gatling gun, and no one had any FX that worked, so on the spur of the moment, I grabbed a mono Nagra and a 421 mic and headed for the Angeles National Forest firing ranges. This is a pretty ancient story, so it's probably not worth much practically, but it may be interesting from from an archival standpoint.īack in 1985 the studio I was working at was doing a movie called "Jake Speed". ![]()
